Grattachecca Ice Cream Vending Cart is a mobile shop designed for preparing and serving original Roman grattachecca ice cream and can be used attached behind a bicycle or manually, as a push vending cart. It is equipped with solar panels and battery set that provide a 12 h autonomy, a freezer to keep ice, and all tools to make grattachecca ice cream, the famous ice cream of Rome. Our grattachecca ice cream cart is provided with a 700×1000 mm countertop in food grade stainless steel, 0,8 mm thick, including a water a sink with an automatic water supply system to operate both outdoors and indoors.

About Grattachecca Ice Cream
Grattachecca is a very Roman treat that would an entire chapter to itself. Name comes from the action of “grating” a huge block of ice, called a “checca” in Roman dialect. The grating is made with a specially stainless steel tool that produces ice shavings that looks like snow. Sweet syrups and freshly squeezed fruit juice are poured over this “snow”, and then slices of fresh fruit are added as toppings. This Roman invention, a tradition that dates back to the end of the 19th century, quickly became a popular “street food”. It is still much sought after today and you may be surprised to hear that it is still prepared by hand and served in the historic kiosks that are an essential feature of Roman summers. Fruit juice and syrup are poured over freshly grated “snow “and this enhances the taste sensation when the separate elements combine for the first time inside the mouth.

How to Make Grattachecca Ice Cream
Take the ice you are going to use out of the freezer and leave it at room temperature for a few minutes before you start.
When it is no longer rock hard, coarsely grate the ice either using an old fashioned hand-cranked grater or a modern, electric equivalent.
Once the ice has been finely grated, spoon it into large glasses and pour over some fruit syrup and freshly prepared fruit juice such as lemon, sour black cherry, tamarind, coconut or whatever else you like best.
Add some fresh slices of seasonal fruit.
